Organizing Phoenix NP Clinical Hours in Florida

AANP places Florida in its Restricted Practice category. That means state law restricts at least one element of NP practice and requires career-long supervision, delegation, or team management by another health provider. The operational details can affect who supervises care, how the preceptor practices, and what a clinic can support for a student.

Start credential review with the Florida Board of Nursing. Verify the proposed clinician's legal name, active license, advanced practice status, population focus, certification, and any public restrictions. University of Phoenix then performs its own educational review of the site and preceptor.

Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach form a large South Florida corridor, but travel across it can be demanding. Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Clearwater offer a Gulf Coast cluster. Orlando and central Florida, Jacksonville and northeast Florida, Tallahassee, Gainesville, Fort Myers, Sarasota, and the Panhandle each require a different radius.

A clinic that looks close on a statewide map may not be sustainable for repeated shifts. Before a match is proposed, compare start times, traffic, tolls, weekly frequency, and total course weeks. Patient population and preceptor schedule still come before distance.

The Phoenix FNP program requires at least 600 supervised hours. Adult and geriatric management I and II each carry 45 hours, as do women's health and pediatric management. The final preceptorship is 420 hours. At least 500 hours must be primary care, and the remaining hours must stay within the handbook's listed primary-care and specialty boundaries.

Florida's many specialty practices can look attractive during the final course, but specialty volume is not automatically acceptable. Confirm the course, category, patient group, and hour limit with the clinical coordinator. The final plan must also keep a broad preventive and curative primary-care experience.

The PMH pathway also requires at least 600 supervised hours. PMH/503, PMH/504, and PMH/505 contribute 60 hours each. PMH/506 contributes 420. Across the sequence, students need 100 psychotherapy hours, 100 pediatric or adolescent hours, 100 adult hours, 100 geriatric hours, and 200 hours in any age group or combination.

Do not rely on a behavioral health organization's name. Ask whether the actual site treats the required ages, offers psychotherapy encounters, and has an approved preceptor present for the proposed schedule. A strong adult practice may still leave a pediatric or geriatric deficit that becomes difficult late in the program.

Phoenix encourages students to identify professional leads and current workplace possibilities. The clinical coordinator assists with securing sites and preceptors, reviews referrals, manages agreements, and contacts students as clinical courses approach. Students need to answer outreach, complete compliance work, and keep the coordinator informed of every change.

When no approved placement is ready, the handbook describes a process involving the coordinator, Program Chair, and student, followed by possible assignment within 100 miles of residence. A specific placement date is not promised. Early search work helps preserve time for Florida organization reviews and affiliation requirements.

The site and preceptor must be approved in Typhon before hours begin. Students use the system for schedules, time logs, patient case logs, and evaluations. The preceptor verifies clinical time, and faculty approves the academic documentation. The required affiliation and clearance file must also be complete.

Both NP tracks include a five-day in-person residency in Phoenix, Arizona, near the end of NRP/571. It occurs before precepted courses and covers faculty-supervised competency checks. Florida clinical hours and virtual simulation do not replace that campus requirement.

FNP allows up to 100 telehealth hours, only in the final preceptorship. PMH allows up to 100 telehealth hours and advises distribution across focus areas. In both programs, the student must be physically in the same location as the approved preceptor. The patient may be remote, but the preceptor relationship is not.

Phoenix RN-to-BSN learners complete 90 on-site community-health hours, with 45 in each of two public-health courses. No more than four direct hours may use telehealth, and acute-care work does not satisfy the requirement. DNP learners develop an Applied Project connected to at least 1,000 total practice hours, with approved prior hours potentially reducing the remaining work.

A DNP student selects a practice site and External Consultant and works with a Project Chair. Non-NP MSN practicum requirements depend on concentration and program version. Use the student's academic plan before searching in Florida.
